Fall – Episode 18 “Losing Ground, Part 1″

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 | RPG, Sophie, actual play, games

Alex, Calvin, Megan and Darius have had some pretty exciting times since my last actual play report but luckily Jenni has been dutifully recording our adventures, so go to her blog to catch up.

In an effort to get better at recording the games I’m in I too am going to get back into the habit, but this one got a little long. I’ll see what I can do about making them more succinct. However with no further ado, Fall: Episode 18!

A week and a half ago Alex almost lost Calvin and Megan to a pack of hell hounds, this has left her with a few guilt issues as well as a growing anger management problem. The episode opens on a montage of Alex moping, killing vampires and generally being a bit angsty and angry. Darius, who didn’t go patrolling that night, is also somewhat over come with guilt and has been working hard to improve his skills. The final shot of the montage has Alex holding a vamp, while Darius stakes it. I’m pretty sure it’s also raining…

Alex gets home to find two disappointed parents sitting at the dinning room table. She’s dripping wet, covered in mud and her clothes are a bit ripped. Not the best look. After an awkward confrontation in which Alex is sorely tempted to tell them the truth, she’s sent to her room with a warning that grounding is immanent.

The next day it’s off to school. Alex is in home room, staring moodily out the windows. The home room teacher calls Alex to the front of the class and informs her that Principle Van Burg wants to see her. She stalks off and then sits in the hall, unconsciously sizing up the other students as potential opponents. It looks like our Slayer is getting a little dark. In time she’s called in and the predictable conversation about Alex’s slipping grades ends with her being sent to the guidance councilor so she can get help “sorting it out”.

Meanwhile, Calvin has finally decided to head back to school after skiving off for a week on his doctors note. He heads straight to the AV Club to find Darius, and kicks the beret boys out.

As Calvin kicks them out Darius mutters “Tossers”, just as one of them comes back into the room. An awkward silence follows.

Calvin, for some reason (possibly the curse but, whatever), is fixated on the thought that Xavier is behind the hell hounds. He reasons seem to be that as they need to be summoned and Xavier has already been implicated in the summoning of some weird, aggressive flying monkeys. So the boys decide direct action is the way to go and head off to find him.

Megan is also back at school today, after being discharged from hospital a few days earlier. She has decided that after being dumped from the cheer leading squad not long after being let out of ICU that she would avoid all contact with the “popular” crowd and heads off to work on her ultra creepy chess playing hand (which drums it’s fingers and makes suggestions if it’s opponent takes to long) science project.

The rest of the day is filled with Darius and Calvin slightly ineptly confronting Xavier, Megan and Alex catching up in the cafeteria (and Alex awkwardly saying sorry), Darius committing social hari-kari by tipping a coke all over the cheerleaders and Alex and Calvin confusing the student body will talking about flying monkeys and hell hounds in the halls.

In response to an odd look from another student, Calvin and Alex respond at the same time;

Calvin “It’s a play we’re in”
Alex “Gangs”

After school they head back to the cemetery where the gang was attacked by the hell hounds. When they get there Alex remembers this is where she was first attacked by the monkeys. So she climbs a tree to see if there are any clues. She finds nothing, but over at a near by crypt they find some old coins. Thinking they won’t find anything else interesting here they head back to Darius’ for research.

The whole team (apparently this is the first time Calvin has bothered to help) dig up what they can and find that there are rituals that use coins like that to summon creatures from other dimensions.

About this time Alex calls home to discover that her parents are pissed again, because she forgot to say she wouldn’t be home for dinner, and Darius’ house gets egged and toilet papered by the jocks. Alex decides to not push her luck and heads home, keeping to curfew.

What next for the crew?

  • Will Darius get overrun with the blue jelly added to his locker?
  • Will Megan mange to fade back into a wall flower?
  • Will Calvin ever get proof that his vendetta against Xavier is justified?
  • Will Alex get kicked out of school?

I’ll so be proven right. It’s totally Xavier who is causing EVERYTHING BAD that ever happens.

Also: I’d forgotten the tossers line. Classic.
