Fallout: New Vegas
Fallout fan film
So someone, somewhere has made a very entertaining 16 minute fan film set in the Fallout universe. It’s pretty funny, check it out.
Fallout: New Vegas gets some screen time
So Fallout: New Vegas has been getting a bunch of screen time this week. With a new first impressions being posted on a bunch of different blogs and sites.
I’ve been pretty keen for this to come out since it was first announced last year. I liked Fallout 3, I mean it was no Fallout or Fallout 2 but it was a pretty solid game and I’ve recently been wanting to go back and have more of an explore.
But when it was announced that Obsidian would be developing this game under licence I was pretty stoked. Knights of the Old Republic 2 (despite the ending) was a great game and I’m also really looking forward to the long over due Alpha Protocol.
So I look forward to more news about this next part of the franchise, and the ability to zoom in for those messy and devastating headshots through V.A.T.S.
Fallout 3 & pen and paper RPGs
The Age‘s Screen Play blog had an interesting post yesterday. Chris Avellone from Obsidian Entertainment (developers of the new Fallout: New Vegas game amongst others) apparently tested his design for the original Fallout 3 (never made, not the one that came out last year) by running playtests using a pen-and-paper version of the game, including running simultaneous parties whose actions affected the other group.
You can read all about it here but it sounds pretty damn cool! Given that Avellone worked on the magnificent Planescape: Torment amongst other clasic games, plus has a tabletop background too it would be very interesting to compare the two Fallout 3 based games when New Vegas is released.
There’s actually a longer interview with Avellone from Edge magazine here as well which is worth a read.
More Fallout
Sophie beat me to the punch with her Fallout post, but here’s a bit more.
Shacknews interview with Bethesda’s marketing vice-president about Fallout: New Vegas.
Also, the next lot of DLC for Fallout 3 comes out on May 5. Kotaku has a whole bunch of info on it.
I still haven’t finished Fallout 3 but have decided to get back on the main quest so expect some more reactions soon! Once I finish the main game then I’m planning to get all three DLC packs as well.
New Fallout??
Thanks to FeliciaDay over on Twitter I’ve now heard about another new Fallout game which is set to arrive next year sometime. Here’s a quote from the article over on 1up.com,
During an event to show off its third-party 2009 lineup, Bethesda also announced that a new Fallout title, Fallout: New Vegas (note the lack of a number, we’ll get to that later), will be released next year for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Following the surprise announcement of a new title so soon, the second surprise is that Bethesda is not developing the title. Instead, Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights II (and its expansions), will be working on New Vegas. Note, no art was released of this title, so take the above screen, and pretend it has more tacky neon signs.
This is good news! Firstly I love Fallout, and while I haven’t yet had the chance to finish Fallout 3 (or for that matter spend much time playing it) I have finally decided to take the plunge and actually buy an Xbox 360. Secondly Knights of the Old Republic II was a great game, that was cut way too short. Thirdly, New Vegas sounds like a wicked place to set a Fallout game.
So I eagerly await more news on this title. But in the mean time read the full article here.
EDIT: There is another article, with much the same news, over at Game Spot.
